  • Josh Doctolero

    Instructor | 3rd-Degree Black Belt

Some stories start with a clean beginning. Josh Doctolero’s doesn’t. He sharpened his blades in the Ralph Gracie lineage, first stepping onto the mats in the Bay when jiu-jitsu was still raw and wild. For years he tested himself under bright lights as an MMA fighter, where there was no room for illusion, only what worked when fists were flying and the cage door locked.

The whispers say his game was tempered in those fights, forged tighter in IBJJF battles that carried him from San Jose to the World No-Gi Championships. What’s known for certain: Josh was awarded his black belt by Professor Stan Kendrick, and his jiu-jitsu carries that same stamp of pressure, precision, and sharp edges.

Today, Josh teaches kids, fundamentals, and evening adult Gi and No-Gi at Triune Jiu-Jitsu & Self Defense in Santa Clara. His students get the benefit of years spent on both the mat and in the cage, an approach that blends composure, ruthless basics, and a constant eye for hidden details. Off the mats, he breaks it down for the wider community on his Badger BJJ channel.

Ask him about his journey and he’ll just shrug. Roll with him and you’ll understand: origins don’t matter when the technique feels like destiny.

  • Greg Teso

    Instructor | Black Belt

In 1991, Coach Greg began his career in law enforcement as a Correctional Officer. During this time, he trained in multiple martial arts, including Kajukenbo, Aikido, Boxing, and Muay Thai, in search of practical skills he could apply on the job. In 1995, he discovered Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and immediately knew it was what he had been looking for: a martial art built on position, control, and the confidence to handle any situation.

Over his 25 years in law enforcement as both a Corrections Officer and a Pretrial Services Officer, Coach Greg also gained extensive experience in arrest and control tactics. Today, he blends this professional training with his martial arts background to teach Brazilian Jiu Jitsu fundamentals and self-defense. His goal is to ensure students are not only skilled in BJJ but also well-rounded in practical self-defense strategies.

  • Renee Serrano

Kids Instructor | 4th Degree Purple Belt

Renee Serrano began her Brazilian Jiu Jitsu journey nine years ago at a gym that offered everything from CrossFit to striking, but it was Jiu Jitsu that truly transformed her life. At the time, she had been away from physical activity for years, struggling with weight and health issues, and unsure of where to start. Stepping onto the mats gave her purpose, direction, and a path toward healing both physically and mentally.

Since joining Triune Jiu Jitsu, Renee has found more than just training partners, she’s found a community that has become her extended family. The support, camaraderie, and shared growth within the gym have made a lasting impact on her both on and off the mats.

For the past two years, Renee has also volunteered with the kids program, where she is passionate about empowering youth with the skills, confidence, and mindset that Jiu Jitsu naturally develops. Helping the next generation discover their own strength has become one of the most rewarding parts of her journey.es here
